The word Genkai is a neologism composed of two characters, 現 actual, current and 界 world, boundary.
To Genkai means that an existence of a different world or a conceptual one is summoned to this world.
In this series of photographs, I capture snippets of every day life in Japan. After a minor digital correction, I render these images through an AI image generator call Deep Dream. Deep Dream will visually parse and interpret the image generating new imagery within the given image. In this context, creating creatures that resembles spirits and ghosts that are an integral part of Japanese life and religion, Shinto.
After the image is rendered, I further blend these new elements in an ambiguous manner, make them unnoticeable upon first sight. Requireing a small efford of contemplation and visual exploration of the whole image on the viewer´s end, creating an element of surprise upon discovery.
Within these hidden dimensions where the spirits intertwine with our everyday life, I try to depict how religion and spirituality pervade in Japan helping to create a complex understanding and respect in making sense of the irrationality of life.

La palabra Genkai es un neologismo compuesto de dos caracteres, 現actual y 界mundo, margen. Genkai significa que la existencia de un mundo diferente o conceptual es citado al mundo actual, presente.
En esta serie de fotografías capturo fragmentos de la vida cotidiana Japonesa. Después de un retoque digital mínimo, proceso estas imágenes por un generador de imágenes de inteligencia artificial llamado Deep dream. Deep dream analiza e interpreta la imagen generando nuevas imágenes dentro de esta imagen. En este contexto, creando criaturas que semejan espíritus que forman una parte integral de la vida japonesa y su religión, el Shinto.
Después de este proceso, fundo los nuevos elementos en la imagen de una manera ambigua que hacen ser desapercibidos a simple vista. Requiriendo un esfuerzo mínimo de contemplación y exploración visual de la imagen completa por parte del espectador, generando un elemento sorpresa al descubrir.
Dentro de estas dimensiones ocultas donde los espíritus se entrelazan con nuestra vida cotidiana, tanteo representar como la religión y la espiritualidad se difunde en la sociedad ayudando a crear un entendimiento complejo y respeto hacia el encuentro del sentido en la insensatez de la vida.
